Helping lower cholesterol: The role of oats

The soluble fiber in whole grain oats binds some of the cholesterol in your digestive tract. When soluble fiber binds to cholesterol, this cholesterol is "trapped" and some of it is removed from your body naturally. In addition to soluble fiber, whole grain oats have vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.

How can we help?

3 grams of soluble fiber daily from whole grain oat foods, like original Cheerios® and Honey Nut Cheerios cereal, in a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol, may reduce the risk of heart disease. Original Cheerios cereal provides 1 gram per serving; Honey Nut Cheerios cereal provides 0.75 gram per serving.
